Paintings
Barbie is inspired by the view from her garden studio and her love of the Sussex landscape and its wildlife. Her paintings are personal, modern-day icons with a timeless edge.
My studio is in the garden, and I take my inspiration partly from what I can see from my window, and also from my love of walking the lanes and woods and Downs of Sussex , and the wildlife found there. I also have been influenced by Byzantine art, especially Greek icons, and mediaeval tapestries. These little paintings are executed in oil and enamel paint, on treated reclaimed wood, and some are gilded with Dutch Metal Leaf. They are then rubbed back and distressed to give them a sense of age and timelessness. They are personal, modern day icons.
